Transition team begins work

    ABIDJAN

    A transition team made up of representatives of Ghana's incoming New
    Patriotic Party government and the outgoing one of the National Democratic
    Congress has agreed to set up three joint committees to facilitate a smooth
    handover of power to President-elect John Kufuor, the Panafrican News Agency
    reported on Wednesday.

    The decision was taken on Monday at meeting co-chaired by Kufuor and his
    defeated opponent, outgoing Vice President John Atta-Mills. President Jerry
    Rawlings is also due to step down on Sunday after more than 19 years at the
    helm in the West African country.
