Zimbabwe’s High Commissioner in London, Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, has said that Britain and the international community had to provide the funding if Zimbabwe is to fully compensate white farm owners for land seized as part of a redistribution programme.
In remarks to journalists, Mumbengegwi said that if outside countries did not provide the funding, Zimbabwe would not be able to afford to pay market rates for the white-owned farms.
Britain has said it would refuse to finance land reform until President Robert Mugabe demonstrated “a commitment to national reconciliation and the rule of law”.
