Bread price set to rise

    JOHANNESBURG

    The price of bread in Zimbabwe is set to go up following a 50 percent wage increase for workers in the baking industry, Eddie Cross, an executive member of the National Bakers Association, said this week.

    The ‘Daily News’ quoted him as saying bakers still had to agree on the new price of bread. “We have only agreed to an increase in wages starting on 1 July, but we have not made any decision to increase the price of bread. The price might be increased now that we have raised the wage bill, but as far as I know, we have not taken any decision,” he said.

    The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) yesterday quoted the association’s president, Mark Prior, as saying that the price of bread would go up by 10 percent following the increase of wages in the industry.
