The central division of Mozambique’s state-owned ports and railways company, CFM, in Beira plans to retrench at least 6,000 workers by the end of this year, media reports said.
The retrenchment programme, which began four years ago, will lead to a loss of 1,000 jobs in the next two months and will continue for the next six years, said the reports. Some workers will be transferred to the concessionary companies that manage port terminals and other services under lease agreements. Other workers will be retired when they reach retirement age or if they have worked for the company for more than 35 years.
