Two cash-strapped soldiers belonging to the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) are being held in custody after allegedly attempting to sell military weapons to residents in the Kavango region, ‘The Namibian’ reported.
Police spokesman Chief Inspector Hophni Hamufungu told the daily that “two FAA soldiers were apparently arrested for attempting to sell firearms. They are in detention.” Law enforcement officials pounced on the two FAA soldiers after being alerted by villagers that the duo were trying to sell their deadly wares in the Mukwe area, he said.
Chief Inspector Hamufungu said the arms included automatic rifles such as AK-47s, AK-Ms and AK-MCs. When Police detectives approached senior FAA commanders they were told that “the weaponry was not part of the FAA arsenal,” Hamufungu said.
