Authorities in Lagos have ordered the immediate burial of some 600 corpses piled up in hospital mortuaries, AFP reported a spokesman for the Lagos state government as saying on Wednesday.
According to AFP, Lagos spokesman Segun Ayobolu said the corpses had lain unclaimed in hospital mortuaries for the past week and would be buried within the next 48 hours.
The burials were halted by a strike by unions demanding the payment of a new minimum wage. The strike, begun last week, has closed down hundreds of schools and hospitals in Lagos.
