Poll says Mugabe lags behind

A week before the general election in Zimbabwe, an opinion poll has suggested a clear lead for the opposition Movement for Democratic Change, the BBC said on Friday.

The poll, conducted by a group at the University of Zimbabwe, forecast that the Movement would win at least seventy seats, with President Mugabe’s ZANU-PF getting forty. Another nine seats were described as too close to call.

A spokesman for ZANU-PF dismissed the poll as unscientific.
