FAO appeal for $32 million for drought victims

The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) on Wednesday appealed for $32 million to help pastoralists and farmers hit by drought in Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia and Kenya. A press release said millions of people in the five countries were suffering from hunger and malnutrition. Pastoral communities had been particularly affected by the loss of large numbers of livestock. The situation had been further aggravated by armed conflicts and political and social instability, which had disrupted food production and caused large numbers of refugees and internally displaced.
