A group in southeast Nigeria that plans to declare a new Biafran Republic on 27 May to coincide with former Biafran war leader Emeka Ojukwu’s announcement 33 years ago has met with opposition, AFP reported on Tuesday.
Ojukwu has disowned the new campaign led by the Movement for the Actualisation of a Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) dismissing it as infantile, AFP reported.
Meanwhile the Odua People’s Congress which campaigns for greater autonomy for the Yoruba group in southwest Nigeria said it would not allow a pro-Biafra ceremony in Lagos, inhabited mainly by Yorubas, AFP reported.
