The executive officer of the Fourth African Kramer Group of Companies has denied allegations of illegal deals with Revolutionary United Front (RUF) leader Foday Sankoh as alleged by the Sierra Leonean government last week, the Sierra Leone News Agency (SLENA) reported on Friday.
Robert Kramer described the allegations as “unfortunate, unfair and untrue”.
He acknowledged meeting Sankoh in Sierra Leone in November 1999 but said that he did not sign a memorandum of understanding with the then chairman of the Commission for the Management of Strategic Mineral Resources, Reconstruction and Development (CMRRD), SLENA said.
The memorandum, dated 11 February and signed only by Sankoh, was discovered at his home by government officials after Sankoh fled following a demonstration by Sierra Leonean civilians on 8 May.
