The Goma-based rebel Rassemblement congolais pour la democratie (RCD) on Monday said it was investigating reports that its forces had taken part in an alleged massacre of civilians in the South Kivu village of Katogota. “We have sent our investigators to the area to find out exactly what happened, and we expect an initial report within 2-3 days. Forces against us have exploited the situation to spread lies,” RCD official Bizima Karaha told IRIN. The Catholic missionary news agency MISNA on Saturday said rebel forces had killed about 300 people on 14-15 May in Katogota, about 60 km south of Bukavu.
