Russian Duma urged to approve peacekeepers

    ABIDJAN

    Russian President Vladimir Putin has called on parliament to approve a draft order to send troops to Sierra Leone as part of a UN peacekeeping force, the Interfax news agency reported. In a letter to the leader of the upper house, Yegor Stroyev, Putin said the UN would reimburse Russia for the expenses incurred in sending the Russian troops. “The Russian military contingent will be acting as part of the UN peacekeeping force in the region delineated by the UN Security Council,” Putin told Stroyev.
