Battle against malaria, polio

A two week-week campaign to eradicate the mosquito which causes malaria winds up on Saturday after homes were sprayed with insecticide across the Okavango basin. News reports said the government had reported an unspecified number of fatalities due to malaria which increased following heavy rains and some flooding in February and March. Meanwhile, the government said it hopes to eradicate polio by the end of the year with the launch of a new immunisation campaign starting next week. The health ministry said all children under five would be vaccinated as part of the country’s commitment to the WHO goal of eradicating the disease around the world by the end of the year.
