At least one of the people arrested when security forces raided Kivumu regroupment camp on Sunday 7 May was now feared to have “disappeared,” Amnesty International stated on Tuesday. The human rights organisation was “seriously concerned” for the safety of the man, identified only as Birigimana, who was reportedly detained and seriously beaten at Cinkona military post before soldiers on the spot denied that he had ever been held, an Amnesty press release stated. Two of those arrested, Alphonsine Minani and Claude Hicuburundi, had been released but at least four others were being held incommunicado by the Police speciale de roulage (PSR) in the compound of the District of Bujumbura Rural, Amnesty said. Kivumu camp, which had been blocked off after protests about army looting during the 7 May raid, was now reported to be freely accessible again, the statement added.
