ECOWAS passport in June

A common passport for the member countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is to come into effect next month, news agencies reported. Interior ministers, meeting in Bamako on Friday, agreed in principle to the passport, which now has to be approved by heads of state. ECOWAS comprises Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo. Another member, Mauritania, has given notice that it is leaving the community.
