Two detainees released by RUF

Two UN military personnel who were being held by the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) in eastern Sierra Leone have been released, the UN Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) reported on Thursday. The two are Major Suresh Karki, a Nepalese military observer with UNAMSIL, who was released by the RUF on Wednesday in order to receive medical treatment, and Lance Corporal Paucho Singh Chouan, a member of the Indian contingent. Karki said neither he nor 18 other UN military personnel being held along with the two men were illtreated by the RUF during their detention.
