War veterans, white farmers to meet Mugabe

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe will meet on Friday with war veterans and white farmers negotiating to settle the country’s farm occupation crisis.

“Both sides will be meeting with the president tomorrow,” said Fidelis Mukonori, a Roman Catholic cleric who has been mediating between the two parties.

The leader of the CFU negotiating team, former CFU president Nick Swanepoel, said he had not yet received confirmation of Friday’s meeting but had been instructed “to be on stand-by.” “The trip around the country has had to be postponed for now because we’re seeking an audience with His Excellency (Mugabe),” Swanepoel said.
