Police and students clash

Riot police clashed with students at a Zimbabwean provincial university on Wednesday. News reports said students tried to prevent staff and other students from entering the campus, police said.

A police officer was slightly injured by a missile thrown by the students, according to the state-run Ziana news agency. The university was closed on Tuesday after clashes between political rivals.

On Wednesday, students tried to enforce the closure by not allowing anyone on to the university grounds. “We intervened when some students were preventing staff and other students from entering the campus,” said police Chief Inspector Ephraim Nyakata.
