War veterans’ leader, Chenjerai Hunzvi, has meanwhile extended his campaign against white farmers to anyone believed to have any connection with Britain.
Speaking at a rally in Harare, he denounced the British as “ruthless, cunning people” and urged his followers to seek out British passport holders and force them to leave Zimbabwe. Of the 70,000 whites in Zimbabwe, there are an estimated 20,000 British passport holders.
Another veterans’ leader, identified only as Comrade Zimbabwe, told the rally: “If ZANU-PF loses this election, you will not say that I did not warn you. If we lose, we will get out our guns. We cannot allow the MDC to sell our country. We will be at the voting stations. If ZANU-PF loses, the way forward will be filled with war.”
