Konare in Pretoria

    ABIDJAN
    Malian President Alpha Oumar Konare of Mali arrived in South Africa on Friday for a day-long working visit during which he will hold talks with his counterpart, Thabo Mbeki. A government statement said Konare was accompanied by Foreign Minister Modibo Sidibe and Lassana Kouyate, the executive secretary of the 16-member Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Konare was scheduled to meet South African cabinet members and representatives of South African mining house Anglogold, which has interests in Mali.
