Teachers’ college closed

    JOHANNESBURG

    Namibia’s cabinet has expelled all 360 trainee teachers at the Rundu College of Education and ordered the indefinite closure of the institution after students occupied the campus, ‘The Namibian’ reported on Friday.

    The striking students will be required to re-apply for admission to the college when it re-opens. Information Deputy Minister Gabes Shihepo announced in Windhoek on Thursday that President Sam Nujoma’s cabinet had approved a submission by Higher Education Minister Nahas Angula that the college be closed for an indefinite period because of the unstable situation at the institution.

    Higher Education Permanent Secretary Vitalis Ankama said the students had “chased out” the management were effectively “in charge” after their demands were not met, the report added.
