Former dictator claims innocence

    Former Mali president Moussa Traore, serving a life sentence for "blood and economic crimes", told AFP on Monday that he was innocent of all charges against him. This was the first time he had talked to a journalist since being ousted from power in 1991. He was sentenced to death in two different trials but the sentence was commuted to life imprisonment by President Alpha Oumar Konare, who opposes capital punishment.
