HIV/AIDS to effect tertiary education

HIV/AIDS is likely to have an adverse effect on tertiary education in South Africa during the next five to 10 years a ‘Business Day’ report said. The report quoted a recent study which said that between 1998 and 2010, 4,850 students could become infected with the disease while at university, with an especially high incidence of infection among young female students. It also cited concern for university staff, especially junior lecturers and researchers in their 20s.
