Botswana’s acting foreign minister, Jacob Nkate, said his government was alarmed at the extent to which the UNITA rebel movement in Angola had been able to procure weapons, PANA news agency reported at the weekend.
In a speech marking the 24th anniversary of Angola’s independence, Nkate called on all parties to abide by UN sanctions against the rebel movement and said the UN Security Council had to “live up to its determination to stop human suffering in Angola”.
