Tax levy to be introduced to combat AIDS

Meanwhile, news reports said that as part of the effort to fight HIV/AIDS, the Zimbabwean government says that it proposes to introduce a 3 percent tax levy on money earned by individuals and large corporation. The health and child welfare ministry said that it planned to create a special fund for the tax, which will be automatically deducted from people’s pay cheques. The government estimates that an estimated 700 people die each week of AIDS-related diseases, and that 500,000 children have been orphaned by the disease since the late 1980s.
