South Sudan commemorates International Day for eliminating Sexual Violence in Conflict
South Sudan has joined the World to commemorate the International Day for elimination of Sexual Violence in conflict on June 21, 2016.Speaking at the special event in Juba the Deputy UN Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs Eugene Owusu has acknowledged that armed groups are responsible for the sexual violence during the conflict, but added that he is positive that the formation of the Transitional Government will lead to addressing issues of sexual violence experienced by women and girls.
“This terrible conflict that this country has endured for the last two years have impacted on women and girls in particular including continued reports of systematic crimes of sexual violence.“
Theater play by the students from Juba Day Secondary School, songs by St. Thomas’ pupils and a song by Emmanuel Lasu, a popular South Sudanese musician colored the event.
