Atlantic hurricane warning

Port-au-Prince. Anne Isabelle Leclercq/IRIN
The Tropical Storm Risk (TSR) forecast for the Atlantic says there is a high certainty (90 percent) that activity this year will be in the top one-third of years historically. At least 18 tropical storms are forecast, of which nine will intensify into hurricanes, and four or five into intense hurricanes.

According to the National Hurricane Centre’s Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale, intense hurricanes usually cause flooding and extensive damage to infrastructure during the June-November storm season. The Caribbean and Central America are the regions most likely to be affected.
