Government forces report success

President Pierre Buyoya's government is to get $13 million in emergency post-conflict aid.
    NAIROBI

    Angolan government forces have taken control of 11 of the 13 districts in
    the diamond-rich Lunda Norte and Lunda Sul provinces, the state newspaper
    reported on Tuesday.

    Government troops would soon control the two remaining districts, Lubalo and
    Cuilo, General Sa Miranda told the daily 'Jornal de Angola'. "Our troops
    have created the conditions for occupation," Miranda said. He did not say when the army had taken control of the 11 districts, Reuters reported.

    He said the push to take the diamond-rich areas would leave the rebel UNITA
    movement without the means to buy arms.
