Lewis warns against complacency

    JOHANNESBURG
    Zambia will win its fight against HIV/AIDS, government officials told UN Special Envoy for AIDS in Africa Stephen Lewis on Monday. Speaking at the start of Lewis's five-day visit to assess the government's current anti-AIDS interventions, Health Minister Brian Chituwo said some strides had already been made in terms of wider access to treatment. Chituwo noted that 61,000 people were receiving antiretroviral (ARV) therapy as of March this year, up from 44,000 in November last year. Lewis praised Zambia's successes but cautioned that prevention and behaviour change were being overlooked in the ARV rollout.
