The Global Movement for Children (GMC), an NGO, is urging the international community to do more about the treatment and care of HIV-positive children.
According to a joint report by GMC partners, which include World Vision International and the UN Children's Fund, only one child in twenty needing anti-AIDS treatment was receiving it.
Dean Hirsch, GMC chairman and president of World Vision, said children were missing out on treatment because they were excluded from the global AIDS agenda.
"The lack of treatment amounts to a death sentence for millions of children. Without treatment, most children with HIV will die before their fifth birthday," Hirsch said in a statement.
