Aspen making ARV inroads into Africa

    JOHANNESBURG

    South African generic drug firm, Aspen Pharmacare, says sales of its antiretrovirals (ARV) into the rest of Africa last year outstripped those back home.

    Company director Stephen Saad said new products and total sales of ARVs had increased beyond US $16 million.

    Saad, however, warned investors not expect the same growth in the second half, as the firm expected to come under "generic attack" with some of its branded products losing their patent protection.

    Meanwhile, Aspen said a joint venture with Indian industry giant, Lupin, was planned for the development, manufacture and global marketing of selected anti-tuberculosis products.
