The South African Ministry of Health is upbeat over results from its HIV/AIDS awareness campaign.
Health Minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang said young people were heeding the government's call for abstinence and condom use as a means of HIV prevention.
According to department figures, an estimated 60 percent of youth had chosen to abstain from sex while others considered condoms "fashionable".
"We want to encourage [the youth] for actually accepting messages that we have been conveying," the South African Broadcasting Corporation quoted Tshabalala-Msimang a saying.
