The UN Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and the Global Business Coalition (GBC) on HIV/AIDS have agreed to jointly encourage greater company action against the pandemic.
At a ceremony celebrating the agreement in Paris on Monday, UNESCO Director-General Koichiro Matsuura stressed the importance of bringing the private sector on board in initiatives to combat the disease.
"The world of work is an essential element in any action, whether it concerns prevention, skills acquisition or behaviour change," Matsuura pointed out.
The agreement is expected to run from 2006 to 2010.
