At least 40 children in Uganda are infected with HIV every day, while one child dies of an AIDS-related illness every hour, Martin Mogwanja, the Resident Representative of the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) has said.
Speaking at the launch of a global campaign to address the impact of the pandemic on children, Mogwanja attributed the nation's current paediatric AIDS rates to limited attention for children.
"Children are the missing face of HIV/AIDS and remain dangerously underserved by care providers, and are insufficiently informed by social campaigns," he said
Mogwanja warned that as long as this continued, the number of children infected, dying, and orphaned by AIDS in Uganda would continue to rise.
