Govt/NGO AIDS initiative to focus on OVCs

Mozambique has partnered with the Community Development Foundation, a social and economic development NGO, to address the impact of HIV/AIDS on orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs). According to Minister of Women's Affairs and Social Welfare, Virgilia Matabele, the agreement was also aimed at training her technical staff in order to improve AIDS coordination, strategies and programme monitoring, assessment and development. During the signing of the agreement on Wednesday, the minister called for strengthened relations between government and civil society. The local news agency, AIM has reported that funding for the programme was granted by the US Agency for International Development.
