Chembio, a US-based diagnostics firm, pledged on Thursday to donate 10,000 HIV rapid-test kits to the Infectious Disease Institute (IDI) in Uganda.
This follows Uganda's recent decision to opt for Chembio's 'HIV 1/2 Stat-Pak' to be the confirmatory test in all its national rapid testing protocols.
Chembio president Larry Siebert said in a statement, "We are delighted to assist the IDI ... in efforts to combat this disease by creating sustainable programmes."
IDI director Keith McAdam welcomed Chembio's donation, saying it would help to address the steady flow of new people seeking to know their HIV status.
