HIV/AIDS prevention accord signed with Brazil

    During his recent visit to Brazil, Botswana President Festus Mogae signed an agreement with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to combine forces against HIV/AIDS. The two countries have been working together against the disease since 2002, and the new five-year HIV prevention accord sets rules for future anti-AIDS projects, the news service, Agência Brasil reported. Mogae noted that his visit also provided an ideal opportunity for both countries to explore additional areas of partnership and cooperation. Brazil has an estimated HIV prevalence rate of 0.6 percent, while some 40 percent of Botswana's adult population are thought to be HIV-positive.
