Mandela and Bush to discuss AIDS and development

    JOHANNESBURG

    Former South African president Nelson Mandela is to visit the US next week to discuss HIV/AIDS and social development with President George W. Bush.

    US presidential spokesman Scott McClellan said the meeting would be an ideal opportunity for the two leaders to discuss their shared commitment to tackling the disease and other African issues.

    The South African Press Association quoted McClellan as saying: "It will also be an opportunity for the leaders to talk about president Mandela's foundation to promote universal education in Africa and enhance the social development of African youth and children."

    The former president is also expected to launch the 'Nelson Mandela Legacy Trust' to support the work of his Africa-based foundations.
