Former United States president Bill Clinton has said it was "unconscionable" how little wealthy countries were doing to assist Africa and other regions with rampant HIV/AIDS, the Washington Post reported.
Clinton made the remark while accepting an award from the US National Foundation for Infectious Diseases for his global AIDS work, and said he hoped at least two million HIV-positive people would be covered by his foundation's treatment programmes by 2008.
The Clinton Foundation has negotiated lower AIDS drug prices and helped craft prevention and treatment programmes in numerous countries, including much of Africa.
Benin and Malawi have become the newest beneficiaries of the Clinton Foundation and will be applying the funds to expand their AIDS treatment programmes.
