South African Deputy President Jacob Zuma has urged all tertiary institutions to integrate HIV/AIDS education in their curricula.
Zuma told the audience attending the launch of the 'African Centre for HIV and AIDS Management' at the University of Stellenbosch in Cape Town this week that the government could not be expected to defeat the pandemic alone.
The South African Broadcasting Corporation quoted him as saying: "We need the intervention of tertiary institutions in critical areas of [HIV/AIDS] education, training, research as well as management and leadership."
Zuma said if all graduates left their respective institutions with AIDS literacy, then education would have succeeded in assisting the government's anti-AIDS campaign.
