Free AIDS drugs for HIV-positive children

    JOHANNESBURG

    HIV-positive children in Uganda's Kasese district will start receiving free antiretroviral therapy at Kagando Hospital on Friday.

    Zebedee Masereka, a retired Episcopal bishop, made the announcement during his recent address to home-based HIV/AIDS care volunteers.

    A local newspaper, New Vision, quoted Bishop Masereka as saying: "We are striving to save as many people as possible, because God creates human beings to live for a long time, not for a few years."

    While there are no figures for the number of children living with the HI virus in the district, youngsters are estimated to make up at least 10 percent of Uganda's one million HIV-positive people.
