HIV/AIDS policy to protect HIV-positive teachers

    JOHANNESBURG
    Kenya plans to launch an HIV/AIDS policy to prevent discrimination against HIV-positive teachers in the workplace. Secretary of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Gabriel Lengoiboni, was reported by the Nation newspaper as saying that the policy would provide guidelines on the rights and duties of educators. The policy, now awaiting the approval of stakeholders, addresses stigma, discrimination, job security and employee benefits, Lengoiboni said. He noted that the union had witnessed a decline in membership from 240,000 to 228,000 after many HIV-positive teachers died.
