The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has called on Africa's governments to include displaced people in anti-AIDS programmes.
The UNHCR regional deputy representative, Fernando Protti-Alvarado, told a four-day workshop in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, that there was a need for the authorities to extend programmes to refugees due to the impact of HIV/AIDS on the displaced.
Protti said although the UNHCR had implemented programmes in camps, it was "doubtful whether adequate behavioural change has been brought about as a result".
Some 32 health professionals from 18 countries are attending the workshops which also focus on malaria control, family planning and health information systems.
