Kenya has received US $3.8 millon from the World Bank to fight AIDS, despite a delay by HIV/AIDS groups in providing audit reports for the past financial year.
The Auditor-General's report for 2002/03, which National AIDS Control Council (NACC) director Patrick Orege said had been delayed by red tape, was expected to be made available to the Bank on 30 June.
Speaking to journalists after the opening of a workshop at the Hilton Hotel, Orege thanked the World Bank for releasing the first instalment of the Bank's US $215 million initiative to fight the epidemic in Kenya before receiving the audit report.
The NACC director also urged HIV/AIDS groups to account for funds on time, to enable the World Bank to release more money to more AIDS organisations in the country.
