HIV vaccine consortium endorsed at G8 summit

    JOHANNESBURG

    Delegates attending the current "Group of Eight" (G8) summit in Georgia, US, have agreed to form a global consortium to develop an HIV/AIDS vaccine, UK newspaper, The Guardian, reports.

    Founding member of the consortium, the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), lauded the creation of the new vaccine enterprise.

    "A new level of global collaboration in HIV/AIDS vaccine research and development is critical, so that the most promising vaccine candidates, regardless of country of origin, are prioritised for human testing," AIVI said in a statement.
