Condom-use low among youth

    JOHANNESBURG

    A Ugandan AIDS organisation has urged school-going youth to guard against HIV infection by living responsibly.

    The results of a recent survey by the Community Awareness and Response on AIDS (CARA) revealed that only 48 percent of sexually active youth in Central Uganda's Kayunga district used condoms during sexual intercourse.

    CARA director, Robert Kabiyambi, said the results showed how carelessly the youngsters lived.

    "Schools should provide information to students about the use of condoms. It does not help to tell them to abstain because they are already having sex," Kabiyambi was quoted by a local newspaper, New Vision, as saying.
