Some 171,000 Zimbabweans living with HIV/AIDS are expected to receive free anti-AIDS drugs under the World Health Organisation's (WHO) 3 by 5 treatment plan.
The WHO initiative aims to place three million HIV-positive Africans on antiretroviral therapy by 2005.
Zimbabwe announced earlier this year that some of the country's major hospitals would provide treatment under the partnership between the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare and WHO.
Health Minister David Parirenyatwa was quoted by a local newspaper, The Herald, as saying: "Our Government is committed to the provision of antiretroviral drugs to prolong and improve the quality of lives for people living with HIV and AIDS."
