South African Health Minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang has denied claims that her department has been slow to disburse millions of dollars in HIV/AIDS assistance from the Global AIDS Fund.
Richard Feachem, who heads the Fund, earlier this week threatened to withdraw the funds, saying his organisation might look at distribution mechanisms other than the central government.
"Dr Feacham has no right to threaten to reorganise arrangements between the Fund and South Africa without establishing what the facts are," Tshabalala-Msimang was quoted as saying by the South African Press Association.
According to the ministry of health, the delay was caused by South Africa's adherence to the key principles of the Fund - good financial management and performance monitoring.
