Former Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda has accused wealthy nations of failing Africa on HIV/AIDS.
He said despite efforts by the Global AIDS Fund, only a few people with HIV on the continent had access to life-prolonging antiretroviral drugs.
The former president also called for available funds to be earmarked for improving nutrition for HIV-positive people, instead of focusing just on the purchase of anti-AIDS drugs.
According to Associated Press, Kaunda said the AIDS pandemic in sub-Saharan Africa, where more than 70 percent of HIV-positive people live, had been exacerbated by malnutrition, poverty and illiteracy.
