Company introduces employee AIDS subsidy scheme

    JOHANNESBURG

    Zambia's Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO) has introduced a scheme to subsidise the cost of anti-AIDS drugs for its employees.

    ZESCO managing director, Rodney Sisala, was quoted by a local newspaper, The Times of Zambia, as saying: "Let me hasten to state that the HIV/AIDS scheme will be on a cost-sharing basis, with ZESCO paying 75 percent of the total cost of providing antiretroviral therapy."

    Under the scheme, workers are expected to pay just over US $6 per month and registered spouses will receive medical attention without extra costs.

    The management of opportunistic infections and laboratory services for monitoring treatment are also expected to be borne by the company.
